In an already bizarre family story gone terrible awry, a man has been accused of severely beating his father in California. However, the man was only doing it in retaliation, blaming his father for the imprisonment of his mother who was found guilty of trying to kill his dad with a poisoned milkshake.
The young man, 20-year-old Jonathon Ortiz, plead not guilty to two counts of assault with a deadly weapon and inflicting great bodily injury. His mother, Elizabeth Fuentes, has been in prison since 2002 when she was found guilty of attempted murder for the poisoning that occurred ten years earlier.
According to the prosecution Ortiz beat his father in June and October, blaming him for Fuentes' fate. In June's attack, however, Ortiz put a knife to his father's chest. Yet when Gilbert Ortiz, his father, first spoke with the authorities he blamed his injuries on being a victim of robbery. Eventually a family member put in a phone call to the detective overseeing the case and said that it was actually the son who had caused injury to the father.
