A former civil rights lawyer was disbarred in Los Angeles last week on charges of white collar crimes. Stephen Yagman, 66, who specialized in filing misconduct and brutality charges against the Los Angeles Police Department, has been convicted of tax evasion that occurred in 2007. He was finally disbarred and stripped of his law license on December 22.
The final total of charges against Yagman came to 19 felony counts of tax evasion, money laundering and bankruptcy fraud. Since bankruptcy fraud constitutes a felony and includes moral turpitude, Yagman's disbarment was a must. However, he did fight back to argue that his case did not include moral turpitude.
