Tristan Gale Geisler, an Olympic athlete, had her gold medal stolen from her home in Oceanside last week. Geisler was out for a walk with her dog when she realized that the home that she rents with husband Jon, a Marine Corps pilot, had been broken into.
Not only was the gold medal for placing first in the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City stolen, but so too was her Olympic ring that she won for her efforts in women's skeleton, a headfirst sledding competition. Police discovered that the burglars had broken into an alley window of the three-story house on Cleveland Street. This happened around noon last Thursday.
Although police are doing what they can to track down the persons responsible Geisler has said that "It's tough. It's really heartbreaking."
The medal was stored in a display box in plain sight; several computers and her diamond engagement ring were also stolen. It appeared that the burglars wanted to take the flat-screen TV but were unable to remove it in time while other items were thrown from a window on the third-floor.
