A man who has been plagued for seventeen years as the victim ofidentity theft will now face the person who has been responsible for these theft crimes.
When Larry Smith, 67, realized that he had been targeted for identity theft he contacted law enforcement agencies to help him. As a result of his identity theft the real Smith, who previously had no criminal record, found himself jailed for eight days, had liens against his taxes, had his driver's license suspended and was denied medical care. However, police were not successful in stopping the culprit, now identified as Joseph Kidd, until recently.
Kidd has been a resident of several jails and prisons since 1993 but has been able to use Smith's identity to get Medicare benefits and welfare, as well as get married. He now finds himself in jail again, this time the Placer County jail, where he faces charges of identity theft, grand theft and welfare fraud.
