The man known as the "Green River Killer" now faces a 49th charge after the skeletal remains of a woman were discovered near Seattle last year. This discovery comes 28 years after she was first declared missing.
Gary Ridgway is expected to enter a guilty plea on February 18, coincidentally his 62nd birthday, at the courthouse in Kent, Washington. He is currently being housed at the Washington State Penitentiary in Walla Walla. Ridgway will have to plead guilty if he wants to maintain the agreement that he made in 2003 with prosecutors to protect him from the death penalty.
This recent victim was identified as Rebecca Marrero who was discovered by a group of teenagers in December near the Seattle suburb of Auburn. At the time of her disappearance she would have been 20 years old and the mother to a 3-year-old girl. Although Ridgway had already confessed to killing her there was not enough evidence to prosecute him for her death.
