In an effort to deter drunken driving this weekend the Bakersfield Police Department issued a statement this week stating that there will be a checkpoint on Saturday. However, they did not reveal the location of the DUI and license checkpoint.
At this checkpoint officers will be checking for correct licensing as well as conducting field sobriety tests on any drivers that appear to be under the influence. If you are arrested for a DUI you can expect penalties such as license suspensions, vehicle storage fees, jail time, DUI classes, fines and additional expenses that can add up to be $10,000 or more.
The Bakersfield Police Department has found that DUI checkpoints work to reduce the number of alcohol-related injuries and deaths on the road. They have received funding for this and related checkpoints from a grant awarded by the California Office of Traffic Safety via the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
