Singer Bruno Mars has been sentenced to carry out 200 hours of community service for the drug bust scandal that he was involved in last year.
Known for hit songs like "Grenade" Bruno Mars, aka Peter Hernandez, was arrested in September 2010 when he was found with a bag of cocaine at the Hard Rock Hotel. As a result Hernandez was charged with a felony count for drug possession and could have spent as much as four years behind bars if convicted. However, his high powered attorneys were able to get the singer a plea deal, allowing him to avoid prison altogether.
Part of the deal was that Hernandez plea guilty to the lesser charge of possession of a controlled substance. He was officially sentenced on Feb. 16, just four days after winning two Grammy Awards. In addition to completing community service he must complete an 8-hour counseling program and pay $2,000 in fines. If he is successful in completing all of this and staying out of trouble for 12 months, the offense will be wiped from his record.
