In Los Angeles County, a man who robbed and then killed the owner of a South Los Angeles liquor store will not face the death penalty. It is reported that the jury presiding over the case remained deadlocked over the man's sentence.
On Monday, prosecutors announced they will drop efforts to have the defendant, Larry Stewart, sentenced to death for the 2005 murder. Instead, the 51-year-old will face life imprisonment without any chance of parole when he is sentenced next month.
Prior to sentencing, Stewart was convicted of robbery, murder and other crimes after he attacked 58-year-old Sang Yun Kim. It is reported that the owner of the liquor store was beaten, burned with bleach and choked with his own belt.
