In Huntington Park, local police say that a deputy fired at the driver of a stolen vehicle after the suspect failed to listen to orders. The suspect was told to stay inside the car, but instead reached into the waistband of his pants.
According to Deputy Benjamin Grubb, 27-year-old Eric Valdez was driving a stolen car when he was stopped by police on Tuesday in Huntington Park. He did not listen to the deputy's orders, so the deputy fired his gun but did not hit anything as Valdez stepped out of the vehicle.
The Sheriff's Department said that there were three people inside the vehicle with Valdez. All four were placed under arrest and booked for investigation of receiving stolen property. Valdez, who tried to run away after the deputy fired his gun, was later arrested and is under investigation for car theft.
