In L.A., police have announced that a local doctor has been placed under arrest on suspicion of conspiring with two employees to give painkiller medications to patients he did not examine.
This week, 71-year-old Nazar Al Bussam was arrested at his clinic on Wednesday by the agents from the U.S. attorney's office says Drug Enforcement Administration. The doctor's clinic is in Downey, California.
Agents also apprehended 75-year-old Rosemary Mendoza and 72-year-old James Park at the clinic.
According to a criminal complaint, since 2007, Bussam has prescribed large amounts of drugs such as OxyContin, Vicodin and promethazine to patients without a medical purpose. Promethazine is a cough syrup that is commonly used to make a street concoction called "purple drank".
All three are scheduled to appear in court at the end of this month.
