The Associated Press has reported that three act sheriff's deputies have pled no contest to charges of beating a jail inmate in Los Angeles County.
Allegedly, the deputies had attacked inmate, Gabriel Vasquez, while he was at downtown Men's Central Jail. Vasquez had supposedly made an obscene gesture to one jailer before the attack took place. Initially, investigators said the deputies were not involved and that the injuries were caused by other inmates or were self-inflicted.
However, the investigation was reopened when a fourth deputy admitted during a job interview that he had lied about witnessing the attack.
This week, 34-year-old Lee Simoes entered a plea of no contest to felony assault and was given three years probation. Humberto Magallanes and Kenny Ramirez flied test to misdemeanor assault and were given two years of probation.
