This past Saturday, a man who had two prior DUI convictions was arrested for driving under the influence for the third time in Watsonville. The arrest occurred late Saturday evening after the man drove his blue 1989 Ford Bronco into a utility pole.
The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reports that the DUI accident occurred on the 400 block of Buena Vista Drive. The man, Israel Hernandez Martinez, was driving east when he veered of the road. The impact of his truck was enough to cause a small fire and power outages in the area.
After crashing, Martinez fled the scene, but was later found by police at his house. He told officers that he was driving and displayed injuries. When he submitted to a breath test, it was discovered that he had a breath alcohol concentration that was twice the state's legal limit.
He was arrest on suspicion of DUI, driving without insurance, driving on a suspended license and also hit and run.
