A San Bernardino teenager is in jail on suspicion of beating his girlfriend's 5-year-old daughter to death.
Johnny Anthony Alcala, 19, was babysitting the girl when she was injured. She was taken to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center, and was later transferred to Loma Linda University Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead. A coroner determined she died from injuries to the head.
When initially questioned, Alcala told police the girl fell. But after re-interviewing him the following day, Alcala was arrested and taken into police custody, where he was booked in lieu of $1 million. He has since been charged with corporal injury to a child.
