What is drug possession?
Drug possession is a type of drug crime that is committed when a person has an illegal narcotic on his or her body. Drug possession can also be committed if a person has an unauthorized prescription drug in his or her possession.
Can police seize drugs in my possession?
Yes, if you are caught engaged in illegal activity and police have sufficient cause to stop you, they can search you and seize your drugs before placing you under arrest. They can then file drug possession charges against you.
What will happen if I get convicted of drug possession?
If you are convicted of drug possession, you will face numerous legal penalties. However, the nature of your penalties will depend upon the severity of your offense. For example, if you were charged with drug possession with intent to distribute, your legal penalties would be more serious than simple drug possession. If convicted, you may have to serve time in jail, pay fines, attend treatment programs and you may be placed on probation. You may also be ordered to perform community service.
