In a recent news story, the Los Angeles Times reported that the number of homicides throughout the county increased slightly during the first few months of 2010. Yet, despite the increase in homicides, the overall number of violent crimes that have been committed has continued to decline.
During the first half of 2010, violent crimes dropped by 11.3% compared to the same time period in 2009. However, the city did experience a 3% increase in homicides and an 8% increase in the number of shooting victims.
As of last Sunday, Los Angeles County has had 151 homicides compared to 147 in 2009. Police say that the number of shooting victims also increased from 667 to 720.
