At this time, investigators from the Long Beach Police Department are asking for the public's help in finding the hit and run driver that slammed into a Los Angeles Police Department motorcycle this past Tuesday morning. The accident led to a female officer sustaining injuries.
According to police, the accident occurred at 10:16 AM on the corner of Second Street and Marina Drive. The officer was driving east on Second Street when the hit and run driver struck her from behind. Police say that the driver was operating a green Ford Explorer.
One officer told news sources that, "lanes are reduced due to construction so there was very heavy traffic… It looks like the (Explorer) tried to go down the right lane to avoid the traffic when he rear-ended the motor officer."
Long Beach Police and Fire Department units were sent to the scene of the collision and had to rush the officer to a local hospital. She is reported to be in stable condition at this time.
