Two people were arrested on suspicion of
driving under the influence over the weekend at a DUI checkpoint in San Bernardino.
The checkpoint was in operation from 6 p.m. Friday until 1 a.m. Saturday on the 1600 block of West Fifth Street.
More than 600 drivers were screen at the checkpoint, and 58 people received citations. Two were arrested for DUI, 33 were cited for driving without a valid license, and 14 people were cited for driving with a suspended or revoked license. In addition, 51 vehicles were impounded.
Cities throughout California have been scheduling more DUI checkpoints, thanks to grants from the California Office of Traffic Safety and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
The San Bernardino Police Department has been increasing its efforts to reduce the number of people killed or injured in DUI accidents, as well as to ensure that people aren't driving unless they have a valid license.
