A Redlands man faces multiple charges after San Bernardino County Sheriff's officers found him with a homemade explosive device.
Forty-year-old Travis Lee Lockwood was arrested for possession of an explosive device and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Police became alert to the situation while checking the area for suspects wanted for burglary. While questioning two men they discovered what looked like a large firecracker with a fuse.
Police evacuated two homes and closed an intersection for more than hour and a half until the bomb squad was able to remove the device. Also notified were administrators at Moore Middle School, located just across the street, warning them to keep students out of the area.
The bomb squad eventually determined the bomb was a homemade bomb filled with black powder. Despite being homemade, detectives said the bomb could have cause serious injury or even death to anyone standing nearby if it had detonated.
