A Florida woman will spend the rest of her life in prison for killing her 8-year-old son.
Eryn Allegra was arrested two years ago after giving her son eight Advil pills to put him to sleep. The following morning, which happened to be Christmas Day, she smothered him with a pillow until he suffocated and passed away. She then tried to kill herself by slitting her wrists but was unsuccessful.
Allegra, 32, told police that she killed her son in order to keep him from his father. Allegra, who was separated but not divorced from her ex-husband, began experiencing financial problems. Rather than giving her son over to his father, she killed the boy.
Allegra was charged with first-degree murder and child abuse. The life sentence was part of a plea deal she made with prosecutors in order to avoid the death penalty.
