A gang member suspected of attempted murder is now behind bars following last week's arrest in Murrieta.
Giancarlo Xavier Campo of Temecula is accused of shooting a 19-year-old man at a party. According to police, Campo allegedly became angry when he saw the man talking to a woman at the party. Campo got a gun, walked up to the man, and shot him in the neck.
On Wednesday, the police arrested Campo in front of his home and brought him into custody, where he was booked for attempted murder, causing great bodily injury with a firearm, and causing great bodily injury while having two prior convictions.
Campo was previously charged and convicted of assault with a deadly weapon and other
felonies.
The victim is expected to make a full recovery.
California Three Strikes Law
Campo is already in serious trouble for attempting to kill another man. But because Campo has already been convicted of two violent felonies, his case can be tried under the
three strikes law. This law states that any person who is convicted of a serious or violent felony for the third time will automatically be sentenced 25 years to life in prison, no matter what.
