A man involved in a street racing crash was finally convicted on twofelony counts of assault with a deadly weapon and two accounts of reckless driving. Aren Aznavoleh, 20, crashed into the car of 38-year-old Rafick Darosee, causing him to become bedridden and paralyzed. His passenger at the time, 19-year-old Tadeh Haghvirdi, received a bloody, broken arm because of the accident.
Aznavoleh had been racing on Glenoaks Boulevard in Glendale when the accident occurred.
Deputy District Attorney Susan Navas released a statement about the verdict, stating that "It's not something to be taken lightly. Lives were ruined by his conduct." Evidence and eyewitness accounts revealed that the 20-year-old was racing against a white BMW when he ran through a red light. At that time Darosee was making a turn with the light when Aznavoleh crashed into his Nissan Sentra.
