In Lancaster, a man has been sentenced with 64 years to life imprisonment after he was charged with killing a man at random with a crossbow and arrow. 39 year old Curtis Scott shot Angel Martinez to show his step daughter that he should never be messed with.
The murder took place in March 2008. In a statement, Los Angeles County Deputy Dist. Atty. Ryan Williams said that Martinez was a retired Air Force Base employee. He had been out late one evening and went for a walk because he could not sleep. Later, he was found dead with an arrow in his chest.
In June, a jury found that Scott was guilty of first-degree murder. He was also convicted of felony vandalism and dissuading a witness in a separate case that was then combined with the murder trial. For months, the case was unsolved until police arrested Scott for robbery and assault charges. It was then determined that Scott was involved in the murder of Martinez.
