Recently, the Los Angeles Sheriff's Department released preliminary data that shows the area's murder rate has dropped to its lowest levels since 1975.
According to the data, as of July 31, 2010, criminal homicides have decreased by 21.43%. The Los Angeles Sheriff's Department also said that over the course of the last five years, the area's homicide rate has decreased by 53.52%.
Police believe that the decline in the crime rate can be attributed to falling crime rates in areas throughout the inner-city, such as Lynwood, Compton and Century Station.
The Department says that violent crimes have declined by 3.76% and serious property crimes have decreased by 3.75% compared to the same time period in 2009.
