According to the Associated Press, a 17-year-old boy in Long Beach who was accused of racing cars has been charged with involuntary manslaughter and other criminal offenses after the deaths of four people.
Jane Robison, the Los Angeles County district attorney's spokeswoman said that the 17-year-old will be tried as an adult on eight felony counts by local prosecutors instead of being tried as a juvenile. Allegedly, the teen was driving a Ford Taurus in a street race with the driver of a Ford Mustang. During the race, the vehicles collided and the Mustang crashed into a stone sign, killing the driver of the vehicle and three passengers.
The 17-year-old defendant and another teenager fled the scene on foot and were later arrested by police. Authorities say the Taurus was stolen and the driver did not have a license.
