This week, a Los Angeles County Grand Jury indicted 15 men that have been accused of being involved in a San Gabriel drug ring. The drug ring is believed to have distributed hundreds of thousands of MDMA (Ectasy) tablets on a monthly basis. Police have reason to believe that 24 Jimmy Luong is the leader.
While searching Luong's home, police found an operating laboratory capable of manufacturing MDMA and large quantities of meth. They also found 21 firearms in the residence.
United States Attorney André Birotte Jr said, "Ecstasy is a dangerous narcotic that can cause death, as we have seen at a number of local events in recent years." He highlighted the death of a teenage girl that occurred at a L.A. rave a few months ago.
According to authorities, they have seized more than one million illegal tablets in the past eight months. They say that 13 of the 15 men listed on the indictment are now in police custody.
If convicted of drug trafficking, the defendants would face a maximum penalty of 20 years in federal prison. If they have prior drug crime convictions, the maximum sentence would be 30 years.
