California Traffic Violations
Even the most cautious drivers in Southern California can find themselves being charged with a traffic violation. Reckless driving, DUI, speeding, and other traffic matters may seem minor, but they can be very damaging.
Traffic violations can appear on your criminal record and can lead to misdemeanor or felony charges, depending on the severity of the violation. The consequences for violating California traffic laws vary, but can include: jail time, large fines, driver’s license suspension, and increases to your insurance premiums.
Department of Motor Vehicles
If you have been charged with a traffic violation, particularly DUI, you will need to schedule a hearing with the Southern California DMV. A hearing will allow you to challenge the arresting officer’s report. It will also allow you to fight for the reinstatement of your license.
After being arrested for DUI, you will receive a Notice of Suspension from the arresting officer. This notice will inform you of your temporary right to drive for 30 days. It will also inform you that you only have 10 days to schedule a meeting with the California DMV to fight the terms of your driver’s license suspension! If you do not schedule a meeting within 10 days of your arrest, you automatically forfeit your right to contest the suspension.
Even if your license suspension is not dismissed, you can reduce or lessen the charges brought against you with the help of a skilled DUI attorney.
